Minstrel Banjo

For enthusiasts of early banjo

Anybody out there want to set me straight on the chord structure to this tune? I think I have the first 4 measures (Amaj and D7) but that chromatic climb has me beatin' my head again' the wall.

Same for the 2nd strain, starts in F#m (relative minor to Amaj) and ends in an Amaj I-V-I cadence...what's going on in the middle?

Cool tune, I would like to have the local "front porch" group chord along with me...if ya'll can help!

No, I never took a music theory lesson in my life. I can generally do this by ear (I'm sitting here with a guitar and looping the midi) but not this time!

Here's my take on it.

Nice tune. Where does it come from?
Nice Jim...
By the way, it is from Bauer's "The Banjoist's Budget" which is available free online somewhere-I forget the site. I'm certain you'll get a link.
Thanks for the heads-up, Tim.

It turns out that I have a pdf of "Banjoist's Budget" in a folder with about 20 others that I haven't had a chance to look at yet. Looks like an interesting collection...

Many thanks, Jim! I'll give it a go this evening.

BTW, the site you're thinking of is Hal Allert's. http://www.classicbanjo.com The scan he has of Bauer's "The Banjoists Budget" is from the copy in my collection. Sometimes odd having to go online to get a copy of my own stuff... ;-) I need to get more stuff off to him.
Might be a good topic...harmonizations. We could pick a few and do the lead sheet thing to them like Jim did. I'm certain we would get a diverse response on each tune.
The title comes from slang in the late 19th century and the aesthetic movement. It really hit with Oscar Wilde's lecture tour on interior design. Then G & S's "Patience" sealed the deal.

I think that your accompaniment is "simply immense."
