Who thinks a small tab publication of tunes likely to be played at the banjo gathering is a good idea? It can be available as a download ahead of time, and in print at the site. It may have a dozen songs that are popular to play and lyrics to some of them. It's fun to tak part in group playing, and will be concert material too, for those that would like to play as a large ensemble.

That sounds like a great idea. It would be nice to have something to get an idea of what may be going to be played at the event and for reference later.
Yes a great idea. New folks always can use some guidance and some help in feeling included. :)
Here's a list of tunes that were played frequently at the last AEBG:
Briggs' Jig
Circus Jig
Old Virginny Jig
Congo Prince Jig
Get up in the morning
Cotton Pod Walkaround
Camptown Hornpipe
Buckley's Jig
Hobson's Jig
Old Johnny Boker
Rose of Alabama
Brigg's Corn Shucking Jig
Injun Rubber Overcoat
Hard Times
Grape Vine Twist
Walk Into The Parlor
Bee Gum Reel
Old Joe
Great idea Tim, I can help with the publishing if you need it. I can include a few blank pages so folks can keep notes and write out tabs for songs they learn from others over the weekend.
The Boston Jig was played a lot (taught at one of Tim's workshops)
Mary Blane
Old Dan Tucker
Jim Along Josie
Going Ober the Mountain
Also- Dave Vinci and I had great fun playing Calabash Dance together ...and it happens to be a perfect tune for beginners.
Strumelia, those were on my short list but I was trying to keep the number of tunes down! Those are all great ones to be included.
Indeed lol. I think my excitement about the upcoming AEBG is affecting my list size!
It's one thing to have just a list of frequently played tunes from AEBG, which is indeed helpful to many kinds of folks. But who really needs the Tabs?- tabs are most important to beginners. By the time a player is ready to tackle some of the more tricky tunes, they may not need tabs as much, or more likely they have already collected various tabs and books on their own. So maybe a shorter list of the 15 most commonly played and 'accessible' tunes for beginners and new players, with tabs. Something a new player can cut their teeth on so they don't feel lost at sea if they just show up there without much preparation?
Keep the ideas rolling. We'll put it into maybe a dirty dozen of the hottest and most accessible tunes.
Some lyrics too.
Here's a refined list per Strumelia's suggestion:
