"Strumelia, that's Leroy Troy spinning his banjo in the video you linked to. He's a hoot, and about as nice a person as you'll ever meet. I've been on stage with him...and I've had him show me the basics of his technique. I…"

Trapdoor2 replied to Trapdoor2's discussion Ed Hulse anyone?
"Errata: m25 should show C-naturals wherever they occur. The original only shows it on the bottom of the first chord in the measure. This would be a 1st fret, 1st string in the Tab. I'll post a correction tonight."

Ed Hulse anyone?

Here's a tune from the pen of Ed Hulse, published in Dobson's "The National Banjo Method" in 1886. IIRC, the composer was a well known minstrel. He lived in Buffalo, NY, born 1860, died 1920.Attached is "Epsilon Quickstep" dots in A Notation (4th to B) and Tab. I hope you enjoy.See More

The Gem Waltz

"This piece is trickier than it seems. The timing, rhythms and emphasis are not easy to follow. Getting the grace notes right are key to getting this one to sound 'right'. Of course, there is a printer-error in the original. Measure 2…"

First, the disclaimer: I know not what I do. I may have disremembered, misquoted, misplaced, waxed hyperbolic or simply forgot. No spotted owls were eaten without the proper Mornay sauce having been ladled properly over each. Rolling verbosity knob to 12...

I had several things in mind whilst…

Hi Marc.  Thanks for the comment.  I am not sure how the site works with friends and whatnot, so I am likely to be clumsy.  There was a discussion about a video I posted on YouTube last year that I just discovered and felt I should respond to, so I just finished going on and on about it.  I sure hope that doesn't wear out my welcome.  It is so interesting for me to discover this vibrant community since I have been so isolated in my work over the years and have actually started performing banjo music again after decades (!) of neglect.  Anyway, thanks for the kind words.  Paul

Hi, I sent you a friend request so I could ask about the banjo in your profile pic--I didn't realize I could simply leave a comment here asking about it (I just joined, still learning my way around).  Otherwise, I wouldn't have sent a friend request to someone I didn't know, so please feel free to respond via comments, no need to accept the request since you don't know me.  :-)

Mollie
