Minstrel Banjo

For enthusiasts of early banjo

I want to share this milestone news with you all. I hit the mark, and have recorded all the music (less vocal pieces) in the "Big 5" .....that being:

Brigg's, Rice, Buckley 1860, The Yellow Converse and the Green Converse.

Over 300 songs total on 9 CD's. It is split up into chronological order as such.

Brigg's-2 discs

Rice -1 disc

Buckley-3 discs

Yellow Converse -1 disc

Green Converse-2 discs

I will be bringing these to AEBG to sell at super special pricing. No frills packaging, but good clean music on these CD's. I will sell what I have there for $5.00 each. Hopefully I can pay for my gas.

By the way, these are pretty good recordings. Use them to learn the tunes, meditate by...whatever. I nap to the Buckley stuff all the time. They all have the homogenous sound of a single banjo. I don't believe there has been a complete collection of this before.

I hope you all like it.

Ah, here is Gracenote's how-to on submitting track info.  They mention it can take 2-3 days for it to become available:

Thanks, Tim, I found that a little while later and will be ordering soon. Any possibility on a CD of guitar favorites or a tutor, perhaps?

Tim --

Love your work, especially the guitar. Want to pick up a copy of your Banjo Tutor CD and book but no idea how to contact you. I live in CT, a fur piece from MI. No idea where AEBG is. Will you be going to the Gettysburg Music Muster in August? Any plans on guitar CDs/tutor books?

Thanks,

Lynn Kessler

I have been studying and playing much of the old stuff, using the Charlie Converse book and the Howe's. I imagine I will tackle that stuff soon. It is sort of untouched territory. Are you familiar with that stuff?

Ok, so Rice tracks are submitted to Gracenote, and the two Briggs.  And we now know it may take a couple days to show up in itunes.

Andy, tell me which other two of Tim's discs you'd like me to do next, so we don't overlap our efforts.   :)

I have a copy of the Converse book but my sight reading is nowhere near what it once was -- I studied classical guitar in college but that was a million years ago. Tab reading is ok though. My learning now tends to be through "by ear" imitation -- figuring out Stephen Foster songs as Bobby Horton plays them, WHEN he plays them as Foster intended. I know it's untouched territory and I would love to see more of the original-style renditions. I'm getting tired of seeing vintage Stephen Foster songs ravaged by flatpickers on steel string dreadnoughts at events.

Thanks to all that helped me fill my gas tank. I hope you are enjoying the recordings. This project will be ongoing. They are still for sale and will stay at this price.....1-4 cds are $7.00 each, 5-8 cds are $6.00 each, and the set of 9 are $45.00 which makes them $5.00 each. Add some shipping in there on an individual basis as you contact me.

Next up....I am licking my chops over the Buckley 1868. I've been waiting a long time to dig in, but wanted to keep them in sequence.

Great!  Looking forward to the Buckley '68.

Converse Green track listings submitted to Gracenote.

And I must say, these recordings are excellent.  I've been enjoying just listening so far, but they're also going to be invaluable whenever I find myself plodding through those little black dots trying to learn a song.  Or paging through the tutors and idly wondering what any given tune sounds like.  Really an excellent resource.

Thank you. Not tooting a horn, but I do feel very solid and good about the recordings. I appreciate your saying that. and that was the intent...to provide some sort of starting point to this otherwise unfamiliar material.

I'll be submitting the track titles to Gracenote for Tim's 3 Buckley cds...will do one per day.  So hopefully they should all be recognized and available by this time next week to anyone putting Tim's cd into their itunes for the first time.  As noted already, Gracenote says it takes roughly about 3 days from the time someone submits the track lists until when it shows up and actually functions.

Tim, I agree with the others- what a great resource you give us!

With so much terrific group support from all sides, it would be hard to not succeed in learning to play this style and repertoire.   :)
