At the gathering this year, since many new people attend  with steel sting high tuned fretted banjos, we are trying to create a pool of "borrowing banjos". If you have a spare you can make available to a Newbie, please bring it. It will enhance their playing experience. I have one and I plan to leave it out. We will make a spot where these are available. People cannot all be expected to show up geared and ready, and we would like to accommodate the curious. We can all play together then....no tuning issues. Anybody a tub to spare?

I have a great vision. At the concert on Saturday, not only does a troup of banjo players do "Old Dan Tucker"....but a couple of other kick butt instrumentals. A short playbook is about to be distributed to get us all the same page with similar tunes, We can have many more participate in the concert.....safety in numbers.

I'll probably attend again as a day-tripper, I don't like to sleep in tents and such anymore, and don't live that far away.  As usual I can't tell if my schedule will stay clear until more or less the last minute.  Our balalaika orchestra does its main semi-annual concerts the weekend of the Appomattox CH thing, so I'll have to miss that one (again).

So here is a list of tunes that will appear in a short booklet made available online here and also at the gathering. The purpose is to provide some unity in playing with easier tunes found common in past AEBG .They are tabbed, and 3 of them include lyrics. Any further suggestions?

Looks good! If you actually feature large group playing on a concert, that would be a big chunk of the concert.

Probably more than you'll need, but can choose what works best, and the others will be good for settling (or starting) arguments during informal jams!

I was thinking for concert to play Dan Tucker as we always do, but perhaps maybe 2 more. It would be a powerful sound and quite pleasing to an audience. I guess the best ones will evolve over the weekend. It gives people a common language. OK, I will post a pdf file of these for people to get a head start with, and there will also be printed copies at the barn available. Of course this is not an exclusive playlist, but simply a collection of accessible and interesting tunes.

I find "Cotton Pod Jig" in Converse (1865) but what is the source for "Cotton Pod Walk Around"?
