Minstrel Banjo

For enthusiasts of early banjo

You say Bow-sher, I say Boo-Shay...it seems that some people say "Butcher"...guess we'll never straighten it out.

I say Boocher with the ch as in Scottish loch, a gutteral sound. Whatever.
To add more coal to the fire, I say, " Bow-cher".
I don't know if I'm spreading apocryphal information because I wasn't there, but I do believe that William Boucher's descendants do pronounce it as "boo-shay." Members of the banjo collector's community had a chance to correspond with these folks in recent years and that's what they were told. If I can track down the authoritative information on this front, I'll surely pass it on.

My brain sez Our Hero, Mr. Wunderlich, spoke on this subject at the last AEBG and Boo-Shay was the result.
I don't know what you guys are all talking about, I call them "banjos."
