Some years ago, we got two cats/ My wife decided to name them Hardee and Gilham, after two writers of civil war drill manuals. (See www.drillnet.net for my interest in 19th century military drill.) Since then, we have named successors after drill tactiticians. Our most recent cat, though, is female. Liz decided to name her Varina. I'm sure thbe reenactors out there will get the reference. Not exasctly on topic for the site, but for this thread, it would seem to be.

I was inspired by a song I had just discovered on the Levy site called "Jenny Lind Mania".

No date on it but probably from 1850 when she made her U.S. tour.

One verse (to the tune of Lucy Long) went.....

My wife’s a slave to fashion, against it never sinned

Our baby and the kitten are called after Jenny Lind

My ex-wife and I had two cats, "Hickory" and "Willow", so I stayed with the arboreal theme and named her "Linden", but I call her "Lindy", in part to go along with the 165 year-old song.

I did know a guy who named his dog, "banjo".
