Steve, Tom described the 'nail glide' very well. I can't do the glide at moderate-fast tempos, so I do the pull. On the Circus Jig (and most others) it's a 4 note thing  -it goes like this-

1] strike the D string with your pointer nail

2] PULL the F# string, I use my left hand middle finger

3] strike the A string with your pointer nail

4] pop the thumb string
