Minstrel Banjo

For enthusiasts of early banjo

Available now – a collection of 21 brand new arrangements for the banjo played on a beautiful gourd instrument by Terry Bell. The repertoire ranges from the some oldest melodies to current original compositions, all done in the traditional style of the 19th Century Stroke Style. None of these arrangements have been available previously, and they are indeed well arranged for the banjo…haunting early melodies, Irish Jigs, Schottische, and Old Minstrel tunes. The original pieces (4 of them) represent a portion of the work I did as Artist-In Residence in the Porcupine Mountains Wilderness, where over a 2 week period, I assembled a suite of tunes in the old 19th Century style and named them for the inspirational landmarks in the park.

The music was assembled as a listening project to showcase the Bell Gourd Banjos. Haunting, soothing, and exciting….the gourds are like no other. The play length is just over ½ hr. and there is very little repetition in the style as it flows from piece to piece.

I have also made available the tablature for the music. It is a simple book, but has clear and precise TAB for the early and intermediate player. The fingerings are well thought out, and provide a really fun experience on the banjo using all the tricks and techniques found in other early banjo works.

The price of the CD is $8.00 plus $2.00 shipping. The book is $7.00 plus $3.00 shipping. I am offering both for $15.00 including shipping. Find the order template on my website at www.timtwiss.com. If you want to check it out, send me an email with a request. I will, at no charge, send you one song (mp3) and the tab in PDF so you can sample it. The rest of the book will follow suit with whatever you choose, so it gives you a fair “peek”. No obligation, but I hope it would encourage a purchase. See the separate PDF file for a listing of the music.
