Minstrel Banjo

For enthusiasts of early banjo

...that Gettysburg and Antietam are over?

I play my new Jeff Menzies tackhead that I bought from Zepp in Wendell.

I practice tunes that Greg taught at Suwannee last winter.

So far no one has thrown stones at me.

Farewell!

A good question.  I'm still cruising on post-AEBG momentum... I'm working on learning new tunes and have finally recommenced my on-again, off-again attempts at banjo making.  It is my hope to maintain this momentum and keep playing continuously between now and next June, with the loose goal of tightening up my playing in general, and working towards being able to sing some of these tunes as well as play them.

In the 11 years I've been playing banjo (8 years of clawhammer, 3 of the early stroke tutors), I've had a habit of hanging the banjo up for months at a time while distracted by other things... but I'm idly thinking about taking it to the next level and actively seeking out paying gigs versus the few that fall into my lap; gigs are great but I always feel ill-prepared because I'm inconsistent about practice.  So, I guess that's my long-winded declaration of a goal between now and AEBG VII: practice more and consistently, work on singing.
