Hello,
While browsing on Amazon, the algorithms suggested I check out Bob Carlin's book : The Birth of the Banjo: Joel Walker Sweeney and Early Minstrelsy.
Although I was tempted, its a bit expensive ($42 CAD) and cannot find any cheap used copies.
That being said, what are some other good books about this period of banjo history?

I am not sure what the exchange rate is, but I bought a copy of Carlin's book in paperback for $35 USD in the bookstore at Appomattox Court House National Park a couple of years ago. I enjoyed it as a good overview of the period. Another book I enjoyed was Laurent Dubois' The Banjo: America's African Instrument. Hardback, $30 USD. It covers the entire history of the instrument from it's African origins to present day.
A Free State by Tom Piazza. Historical Fiction but I enjoyed it
I will try to put up a list of books and music tonight. We once had one and it was accidentally deleted.
I have added a Reference page, and under that is now a sub-page entited reference books. These are books I have used in a variety of presentations.
Thank you very much
