Minstrel Banjo

For enthusiasts of early banjo

I have discussed this with my Pry House educator and we are a go! The dates will be August 27, 28 and 29 at the Pry House on the Antietam Battlefield.

Susan Rosenvald will be our chief contact for all logistics. I will have her join the group so information can flow more easily. I will also be contacting Clif Murphy from the Maryland Humanities Council for support and publicity.

The Museum has just put up a new placeholder web site while our new site is under construction. The address is www.civilwarmed.org. You can follow us on twitter and facebook form links on the page. I will be putting this event our on both systems and will keep up the social media links to promote the event.

We will also place the event on the websites for both Frederick and Washington County Toruism so that the public concerts will be well attended.

I will be seeting up a 20'X20' tent this year for break out sessions and mentoring.

More to come soon, but in the mean time reserve those dates!!!

Great!!! Im sure we will hear word about how individuals can help getting the EGB set up when the time is right. Good Deal!!!
I know that many in this group have been doing a lot of deep thinking on the subject. This will prove to be the best EBG yet.
Thanks for doing this, George. We all know what this means to the early banjo community. We have some new faces here, I hope that they realize what a fantastic opportunity this is for lovers of the early stroke-style.
Can't you do it in Edinburgh instead?
I'm in! I just have to work it all out.

I'd be flying in. Would anyone be able to pick me up? Double up on a car? Hotel room or couch? How to get the banjo there in one piece?
Joel, as for sleeping arrangements, you can get a hotel if you want, but many of us just throw down a bedroll the in the Pry House barn where the event takes place, it's quite spacious and rustic and the price is right. As for transportation, I'm sure you could get a ride from the airport. I think I'll drive in this year so if anybody wants to hitch a ride from the midwest lemme know. As to getting your banjo delivered, you could UPS it to a "local" if you don't trust the airlines. No problem there.

I'm glad you're coming, I look forward to meeting you.

If the mountain will not come to Mahomet, Mahomet must go to the mountain.

I'm new to this site and have been playing stroke-style banjo for about two years -- I'm very interested in attending this event, as I have truly enjoyed the You Tube postings for earlier EBGs. Its a heckuva long drive from the Chicago area, but I'd like an invite (if necessary), or am quite willing to intrude....I've always enjoyed Antietam/Sharpsburg in work that we in the old Mudsills did at the park. I'd love to be able to hang-out with you guys for a couple of days and learn a thing or three! I'll be following the info as it comes out. --my thanks to George and any other organizers.

Elaine and I are planning on coming, and are really looking forward to it. I flew once from Chicago, and drove once. The drive is not that bad. We camped last time on the grounds, which was a nice option, and I hope it is available again.
Camping is not a problem if it is done period style. If there is enough interest, I can get us some modern camping at the NPS site about 2 mile away. the cost will be included in the event registration.

On another note, I have contacted the state arts council and they will likely be involved in helping to broaden the audience.

The date has been sent to the NPS and is not on the Museum calendar so we are set to go!

Ray, don't they have a lot of civil war re-enactments in the UK. You could get a minstrel banjo group going there and then invite all of us!

Are there any more details about the EBG at this point? I'm really hoping to attend.
