Minstrel Banjo

For enthusiasts of early banjo

Hello,

I just joined, and I would like to say Hi. I've been playing banjo a little less than a year but am a long time guitar and steel guitar player. Most of my banjo studies have been in Scruggs style bluegrasss, but I became interested in some of the old-time fretless banjos I was seeing on the banjohangout site, and I've also begun to broaden the music I've been listening to include more old-time and mountain music. It's wonderful to discovery new music! I've been trying to get down onto the roots of the banjo more, so naturally I found this site. I have been lurking here for a while, but decided to join as this style and the way people are practicing it is really cool and interesting, and I am learning a lot from people's posts and clips. I've been exploring these styles with my resonator banjo, but I am quite anxious to acquire a proper fretless minstrel banjo. I am in southern California. Thanks so much for having me!

Welcome aboard.

Hi Cliff, glad you joined us!   :)

This is a wonderful place to be. Welcome!

Lots of good stuff here, and lots of helpful people.  I'm like you, a longtime guitar player who took up the banjo a little over a year ago. While minstrel banjo's are great, don't let not having one stop you from exploring this wonderful music.
