From Dan Emmett's manuscript which Bob Winans posted at http://minstrelbanjo.ning.com/photo/tom-briggs-jig-from-emmett-ms

While strolling thru the Barn on Sat. at AEBG VI, I heard Jack Gellerstedt and Jim Hartel playing this tune - first time I'd ever heard it. I was immediately hooked. Jack gave me a copy of the Emmett MS as originally provided by Bob Winans (which can be found in the photos section of this site). Later that evening Jim and I sat out under the tree in front of the barn and he showed me the finger positions. My intonation is still iffy up the neck.
Bravo! Encore!--Rob
Very Nice feel to it. Your banjo sounds great.
Thanks guys. Nick - I just put new strings on...
That's one of Jim's Banjo's right? Do you use gut or nylgut
Yep. Nylgut, so far. My gut strings fall apart in the humidity..
Nice... keep em coming.
Good job, Paul! This is a great tune, is it not. Thanks to Bob Winans for bringing it to us, and the help we got from both Bob and Greg Adams in learning the tune. Playing the tune from a copy of the original manuscript makes one almost feel we are learning it directly from Dan Emmett.
That is true!
