Minstrel Banjo

For enthusiasts of early banjo

Direct inspiration for this one comes from Mark Weems and the Old Jonny Booker Band. My rendition here pales in comparison to theirs! I learned it from Mark's book "The Music of Old Joe Sweeny".

Great! It's one of our favorites from his repertoire as well.

A few people have asked why I changed the usual spelling of "Sweeney" to "Sweeny" on my book. Here are my reasons. 1) Almost all the early accounts have it spelled "Sweeny". 2) The sheet music says "Sweeny" on it. 3) Third, and most importantly, we actually have his own handwritten signature, as found on the sheet music for Lucy Long, and that is the way he spelled it. Good enough for me!

enjoyed your playing and helps me because I am going to attempt to learn it.  I like the other verson better so don't know which I will attempt to play.
