When I coach my rock bands at work...I always tell them to play it "one slower" than they think they should. It comes out good then.

I have listened to numerous recordings of "the barn" ( the group jams ) over the years, as I video it and record stuff. It is the excitement and nature of things that they start quick and speed up. Man, there are some burning versions of these tunes ,,ha ha.

I'd say about 80% of the people Brian and I ever play with, speed up the tempo steadily throughout the tune.  On the rare occasion when it's mentioned, a few of them will say tunes are supposed to speed up while you play them, because it adds 'drive'.  I'm never sure what to say to that, but the speeding up thing does drive me bonkers especially if done on every tune.  Guess maybe I'm just an old fogey.   lol

I think there is an ever so subtle amount stuff can speed up, but it is mostly a lack of discipline. ( imho )
