"Yes, the image came from the 1901 calendar. The shirts that were printed are tan color, not the grey shown on the mockup (trying to get my son to change that). He has a better eye for fashion than me and said that color would be best. By the way…"

"Very cool Dave!  Can you tell us if the shirt pictured is white or cream or tan?- a little hard to tell.  Also can you let us know something about where the image is from?"

Report on band performance at Battle of Aiken, SC, Civil War reenactment.

Posted on February 26, 2013 at 8:06am 1 Comment

Lisa "Strumelia" had requested that I report back on how the weekend event at the Battle Of Aiken in South Carolina went. My band, the Camptown Shakers, traveled down on Friday, three of us in one car and we met our fiddler there, he was already in the area on a little vacation. My wife Tracy drove pretty much the whole way, a long 10 hour drive. We hadn’t ever traveled this far south, or anywhere for that matter to do a performance so when this opportunity came up through the event…

I have been the following the conversation concerning Banjos & Accordions, I notice that you mentioned an accordion shop in Philly. I was wondering if you might provide me with their name, address or web address. I have a period Flutina that needs work and I've looking for someone that can work on them. I would appreciate any info you could provide. Thanks

Hello, Dave: Good to hear from you. I had tried to catch up with you; I think it was about a tune but I don't know which one it was now....Oh, no; now I remember. It was "Waterbound" the one your group played for Ft Delaware's movie. Thanks for making contact...

Hi Ol' Dan Tucker -- First, I don't how many miles I've pedaled thru upstate NY listening to you guys on my iPod, but it's hundreds... Thanks for that!!! Second, I was wondering if you could tell me the provenance of "Waterbound" as there are other tunes of the same name in the Old Time canon...  Thanks very much -- Paul.

Hi Paul, just saw your note. So Waterbound is a parody song (what I use to describe alternate ltyrics to well-known songs). There's an old-time fiddle tune "Waterbound" which sometimes is performed with lyrics like "Chickens crowing in an old plowed field" and the chorus of "waterbound I can't get home down in North Caroliona". The band was spending a lot of time at Ft. Delaware, located on Pea Patch Island in the middle of the Delaware River. I started thinking about the whole prisoner experience and put the lyrics together. So I guess the answer to the question you are asking is that the provenance is about 1995 or so. The line about the barber chair and dance on air referred to the actual situation where a skilled prisoner would offer hair-cuts for prisoners or guards. Glad you like our sound! Thanks. Dave

Ol'Dan Tucker - saw the mention of "Waterbound" and a smile begat my face!  I worked at Ft. DE for several seasons.  Since it's the song of the intro video at the Fort it become the tune everyone who worked there could both remember fondly and empathize with!  Like Paul, have had many miles with you n the boys on my stereo.  Thanks!
