The schedule for this year's Sweeney Banjo Convergence is here! It is looking pretty full! As always, things are subject to change so be sure to check back in!
The Appomattox Inn & Suites have rooms less than 3 miles from the Park. They have kindly offered a reduced rate for their Standard Queen Rooms (which have 2 queen beds!)
If you book, kindly tell them you are one of the banjo performers for the Sweeney Banjo event & that you would appreciate the government room rate!
You can reach them at 866-430-2692 or follow this web link: goo.gl/2y6zcR
There will be a safe place for banjos to be stashed throughout the day & night.
There will be limited parking at the Isbell house (Park HQ) for participants.
There will be a door prize for the farthest traveled & some "Sweeney & the Banjo" swag for all who participate.
Feel free to contact me (email is best) if you have any other issues/ concerns, etc!
Can't wait to see everybody!!
David
I love the schedule! It offers some cool various activity options, while still allowing plenty of flexible time for socializing and PLAYING. :)
I'm looking forward to the period dance and I hope others in our banjo group will join in dancing too! (i love to do contra and square dancing)
where can I view a schedule?
The only issue I see on the schedule is having the Tavern performance so early (9-10am saturday) ... for those of us staying at motels would have to get up really really early to rise, dress, have breakfast, load stuff in car, drive over and get parked, and walk/carry over there in time. Is it not possible to switch the morning Sweeney cabin tour with the Tavern Performance? (especially considering there will be a second Sweeney cabin tour again at 3pm)
There is "period" camping on site? What is this and are reservations required?
Kevin, that means you must have a reproduction tent of the appropriate period to camp on the site itself. Many hotel options exist in the area, however, if you want to stay the night. Appomattox Inn, etc.
Strum. The 9 am thing is just us playing on the porch, the actual performance that you are thinking of (concert for the public) will be during the Old Jonny Booker Band and friends portion of the evening. sorry it was confusing!
Ah, thanks Mark, that's a relief! I guess that schedule is for the general public... thus our more or less unstructured group playing on the porch is seen as 'performance'. Life is a performance piece! ;D
