Minstrel Banjo

For enthusiasts of early banjo

This is to establish a baseline, just under one week with the tackhead, this is about all In can do so far. I lover the sound though.

Nice. Hey, tell us a bit about yourself.

That was quick! Thanks, its quite an adjustment from from my Bart Reiter to the tackhead, I'm a reenactor, and just took early retirement from teaching instrumental music. Anything else you want to know? By the way, thank you so much for the instructional videos and the book.

Sounds good! You might find it easier to get into the groove if you lift the hand up between those first two notes...the notes before the thumb string. Instead of playing them as a kind of roll. Play the first note and bounce up a bit, then come down onto the second note and sound the thumb string right after.
Welcome! Your playing sounds fine, lovely banjo too. :)

Tim sent me a private comment to the same effect. As I told him, I guess I'm afraid I'll miss the string! ;) Five days with the tackhead. You are exactly right and I will put it into practice.

That would be like never getting up from your chair because you're afraid the next time you sit down you might miss it and land on the floor... lolol   ;D    Just teasing you...   :)

Your banjo has a sweet tone. I was just watching Sherlock Holmes the newer one with Robert Downey Jr. there is a Banjo in and out during the movie, to me your banjo has a similar tone. Good stuff!

Thank you, I was blown away by the sound of it. Its been a joy to practice it, now if I can just learn to play it!

I'm sure you'll make the transition successfully.  Aside from your early progress, "Leonidas Jones" just sounds like a mid-19th C banjoist, to me!

Sounds like you're well on your way!

Al, thank you for the kind words. Actually, with a last name like Jones, a first name like Leonidas is a distinct advantage, unlike my grandfather, John Jones!

Paul, thank you as well, this a most supportive community!
