The Joel Walker Sweeney Early Banjo Convergence

May 10-12, 2013, Appomattox, Va

 

Tentative Itinerary (subject to change)

 Friday, May 10th

 Noon – Registration opens, social time, jams

 3:30 – 5:00 Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced level classes

5:00 – 7:00 Dinner is on your own

 7:00-8:00   Joe Ayers Presentation: “Four-string gourd banjo technique”

8:00-? Jam Session

 

Saturday, May 11th

(We will join in the activities of the Joel Sweeney & the Banjo Celebration Day at Appomattox Courthouse. Period clothing recommended but not required. Fiddles, Bones, and Tambo’s will be warmly welcomed! Opportunities to play and perform for visitors on The Tavern and McLean House porches will be available throughout the day – all of the following activities are optional.)

8:00-9:00     Assemble on the Tavern and Mclean House Porches for casual play and social time.

Banjo maker James Hartel in the Guest House.

 9:00–10:00  David Wooldridge lecture in the Theatre.

 Gourd banjo maker Pete Ross in the Guest House.

 10:00-11:00  Marc Fields’ screening of “Give Me the Banjo” in the Theatre.

Banjo maker Jack Gellerstadt in the Guest House.

David Wooldridge’s Sweeney Tour.

11:00-12:00  Greg Adams lecture in the Theatre

 12:oo-1:00     Lunch on your own

1:00-2:00      Lucas Bowman lecture in the Theatre

2:00-3:00     Marc Fields’  “Give Me the Banjo” in the Theatre

David Wooldridge’s Sweeney Tour.

 3:00-6:00     Free time and dinner on your own.

SATURDAY EVENING CONCERT

6:30-7:15   Joe Ayers, Mark Weems & Friends (Sweeney Repertoire)

7:30-8:30 The McKenzies (Old-Time)

8:45-9:30 Eddie Adcock (Bluegrass)

 

 Sunday, May 12th

8:30  Coffee, Pastries

9:00 Presentation: TBA

10:00-11:15   Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced level classes

11:15– 12:30 Lunch on your own

12:30-1:30   Public concert at the Museum of the Confederacy at Appomattox

 Appomattox Courthouse will allow “period” tent camping only. Otherwise accommodations can be found in nearby Appomattox or Lynchburg.

Looking forward to playing with some of y'all at this event.  I'll wear my best bib and tucker and get in my Sunday go to meeting clothes.  You may not recognize me.  I'm going to disguise myself as an old man.--Rob
