Minstrel Banjo

For enthusiasts of early banjo

Moving further down the list in the Mahar book, I see "Carry Me Back To Old Virginny". As I mentioned, Carl and Kyle did a great version of this (comedy included). I took it from the Glee Book. I ended up changing keys, and as I developed my accompaniment, I found myself doing pretty much what was already in Briggs'. This strengthened the notion in my head that many of the arrangements in Briggs' are solos...AND accompaniments. By the way, does anybody know the root source of this? Certainly it was lifted from something earlier.

Tim,  Elaine and I looked, and from what we can see, everything attributes this to Edwin Christy.  We have not found any references before that.  He may have picked it up somewhere, but if he did we can't find the source.
