Fiddle Sources

Of course the Minstrel Banjo is closely knit to the fiddle music of that time. Is anybody playing tunes from fiddle books? Ihave been using the Ryans Mammoth for both finding much of the tutor repertoire we already have, as well as a discovering a gold mine of untapped tunes, "ripe fer the pickin'." It is great practice just to read this stuff.

I use both Ryan's and Howe's. You are right, there is a lot of stuff in there. Since I play with Elaine on whistle, and another friend on fiddle from time to time it is a real challenge, especially to my range. Playing cleanly on the upper neck takes a lot of practice (Carl your piece on becoming a banjoist is right on the money), and is necessary when you start playing with other instruments.

The Vaughan's Favorite Jig that I posted is from Ryan's, I added the counter point. I am finding myself doing this more and more.
