Minstrel Banjo

For enthusiasts of early banjo

I was contacted by a fellow who found in a box of books from an estate sale, a loose collection of songs dated 1856 under the name of "J. Buckley" and appears to be a group of of unbound, but related banjo style tunes. I had this fellow photo some of  the pages and there were at least 9 songs I had never seen, including some arranged for banjo and fiddle, and vocal arrangements in parts along with notes about engagements and booking a travelling Minstrel show with a ledger of expenses.  He mentions a meeting with "F. B." regarding something about publications. Also in the box were what appears to be early thimbles-there were 7 of them. Also was a daguerreotype of what appears to be the Buckleys on stage holding their instruments. I am leaving tonight to check it out...he is offering the box as a donation, if we can put a value on it and find it a home.

You got us, you scoundrel! Wipe that smirk off your face. If I were a judge, I'd sentence you to 6 months of hard Scruggsing.

Hang the man  from the yard arm........although not just yet .... he has a book to do ........ and there was me thinking that another woman was about to join the site......grrrr. :)

Tim--

Even though I know your posting was a hoax, it was, nonetheless, by far the most interesting entry in recent memory.  Some part of me wants to suspend disbelief and have you continue your exciting tale of mystery and adventure.  And I think we'd all like to know more about Banjo Sue.

Yea, I almost wanted it to be true myself. I think perhaps we all deserve a good fiction novel to let our minds go...wait a minute-our minds ARE gone!!

Of course I may end up being the boy who cried wolf, but this morning a woman in church approached me about an estate sale this month, mentioning that there were some banjos and music, and would I be interested in in taking a look before the sale. It was her father's estate. She said one was of them was fretless, and everything was old. I know I deserve a "ha, we'll see" on this one, so if she does produce anything, I will be forthcoming in my observations...photos included. How ironic....unless "banjo sue" is messing with me.

Banjo Sue without a doubt.........mind you fact does sometimes follow fiction.
