Lotsa great music in our genre that we play that NOBODY else plays, which will be in considerable aural evidence at AEBG...when we consider tunes we want to have dusted off and ready to go, let's not forget "Juba."

The tune is everything and nothing all at the same time.  So many examples of it exist from Rice to Buckley to Converse to exercises in the 1886 Analytical, etc etc etc.  Endless variations, endless possibilities.

Clarke Buehling recorded it on the CD reissue of Out of His Gourd.

Let's play it when we get together.

Excellent proposal -

Juba trivia. The best-known of the 19th century Great Lakes sailor songs says, "Watch her - catch her - jump up in a juba ju"
I've heard this explained in all kinds of unlikely ways (like, the juba ju was another name for the bowsprit - it wasn't)
I'm sure it's a reference to "Juba" - "move like you're doing a crazy-ass dance". I like the idea that Juba was enough a part of the collective consciousness to be referenced like this.
