I don't want to combine them.
The other Ning forum I'm on put up a PayPal button yesterday, and had the $200 in less than 24 hours. And the button didn't even work. We just sent donations to her listed email address, from the nonfunctioning PayPal form. You (Tim) could just tell us the address to send the $ -- maybe in an IM, or something more private than posting it. Maybe you should define something that looks like an invoice (e.g. "Ning fee") -- so you'll know not to send us thumb picks, bones, patch boxes or whatever, that you actually sell.
I'm a lurker here (more active on the Classic site) but count me in for $10-$20/year as needed. I'd hate to see either of these sites disappear.

Oops, I meant, John could. Forgot who put up the site.
I'm happy to put up $20. a year to keep this site going as-is. Thanks for making it happen in the first place, John. I'd never heard of a Ning network before I stumbled onto this one.

Well, It looks like there will be enough support. We won't have to worry about this until July. I'll keep every one posted when I hear from the folks at Ning. Thanks to everyone!
I appreciate so much what is happening on this site. It's the one place I check almost every time I log onto the internet, even though I rarely sign in. I'm sorry I can't attend any of your events; aside from the Black Banjo Gathering in Boone, NC, they're all way too far off for me to attend--but I can see what's being kneaded out and clarified and complicated on a daily basis. This site is the cutting edge of banjo studies, as far as my daily banjoing is concerned, and a thorough ongoing destructuring-reinterpreting of the history of banjo. That may sound grandiose, but for me this site IS a place of a collective retrieval, resurrection, and opening out of Being. This site is a new environment and horizon for banjoing. I'm beginning to sound mystical and mythic (and confused), so I'll hush.

I just think this is the most important banjo resource on the internet and will pay $20 for this year if you'll tell me who and how.
Hey, as a new guy dont think im butting in but is it possible to sell advertisement space on this site? Im also a member of cigarbox nation- a ning site, and they sell adverts in different sizes from about $20-$100. Would it be worth asking some of the banjo builders to put a few adverts up, CD's, strings etc! I dont know if this is possible unless you have the larger ning package but its something to consider, as this place is the first page that comes up when you do a google search for "minstrel banjo", which is how I found you.
How does ad selling work? I'd hate to saddle anyone (who might have better things to do) with any extra administration. Mind you, some topic-related ads would be better than the ones I see on the on the right hand side of my screen at the moment - all but one are for dating services! (Canadian women, hot adults, 50-plus and Iranian women) What are they implying about people who spend a lot of time with banjos?

Obviously Im talking about related products and not Iranian women :) if you have a look on cigar box nation
http://www.cigarboxnation.com/ and have a look at how they do it there. Its also a ning network and they sell advetisement space to members for cd's, strings, boxes, pickups etc. Im thinking if something similar could be done here one or two adverts would cover any costs and sacrifice nothing. Maybe if there is any independant banjo builders, string suppliers, hardware suppliers here or anybody is selling cd's they could use the promotion and you could use the money :)

John, is there a deadline for this, before the fees kick in? There was quite a low response to this....not a good sign. I hope this doesn't just fade away, even though there just isn't much activity here at all.
Ning indicated that this should be starting in August some time. I haven't had direct communication from them on the matter. I do have a couple of ideas about advertisers that I was going to try and look in to.
