Minstrel Banjo

For enthusiasts of early banjo

Here are a couple of pics of my first Minstrel-style Frankenstein build. The rim is 12 sided, which will hopefully work out ok.

In the second photo, I show where I left a small space between the fingerboard and rim. I will be tacking a goat skin on to the rim, but in that one small area, furniture tacks won't fit. I was thinking of using a staple gun in that section above the neck, but I'm worried they won't be strong enough or may rip the head. Should I use a short large headed nail or a u-shaped nail instead?

Hey Dan'l. I did angle the neck a couple of degrees, so there should be plenty of tension on the bridge. I need to post some more pics since I have makes some more progress, including the tacked on head. I'm now trying to find time to do the final sanding and varnish on the neck.
