Minstrel Banjo

For enthusiasts of early banjo

Another one of my all time favorites, taken from the Analytical Banjo Method of 1886 by F.B. Converse. Just going back and playing some pieces I've already recorded, but can certainly improve upon. This one has the same strike through a triplet move that "Yankee Doodle" tortured us with.

Excellent, Tim. Great playing and a great-sounding banjo.

Excuse my ignorance, but what does Narragansett refer to?

Thanks Rob. Narragansett is a place in Rhode Island, but I bet it is in reference to the the Indian tribe of the region, as Converse's wife was some sort of activist, I believe. There are a few other Indian references in the Analytical.

Thanks, and that is a "Canada Hat", worn by the soldiers of the Old 4th Michigan.

It is interesting to note that Rhode Island had the largest slave population in New England and there are references to slaves playing banjos in Newport, RI in the 1700s.
