"passes into oblivion" means that I won't add it to my repertoire in any regular way.

Yes I get that...but why would this tune do that while others not?  Have you ever analyzed that kind of thing?

I'm just not that interested in keeping it alive. Not today. Maybe later. I'm going to try the one in Kerr's first.

There's also an F.B. Converse version in Hitchcock's 230 easy pieces.

Well, it stays below the 5th fret and is pretty straight forward rythmically ...

Playing the original is always a good start in understanding a piece of music.
