I'm playing this thumb lead piece on a circa 1885 Chas. E. Dobson banjo from the Buckbee factory with an oddball tone ring mounted on the exterior surface of the rim.  The clock was a wedding present from my wife 37 years ago.

Love that Dobson tone!

Me too.  When I bought this banjo about 30 years ago (I think I paid about $100.00), the whole thing, both the wood and the metal, were covered with silver radiator paint.  It came out nicely as you can see.
