Minstrel Banjo

For enthusiasts of early banjo

Played on a gourd banjo I made

I know its a 1850ish tune,, but my arrangement may have been to modern, just how I learned it.

I've got a friend named Tim Currin who's a wonderful banjo maker and lives on piece of family land that's been in his family for umpteen generations near Virgilina.  He grows calabash gourds in his back yard and gave me a couple about 10 or 15 years ago that would be perfect for a gourd banjo, but so far I've been too chicken to try to make one.  You guys inspire me.  If I thought I knew what I was doing I'd go ahead and bite the bullet.  I probably should try soon because in another 10 or 15 years who knows where the hell I'll be.--Rob

Great job, Steve! I love that song, and I really like the way you deliver it. One of these days, we've got to get together and play some tunes.
