Hi, I'm new to minstrel music in general but am learning tambourine to play alongside a fellow banjo player and have been watching the way you play with the Camptown Shakers, can I ask please, when you play a thumb roll do you apply anything to the tambourine beforehand?

Many thanks, Christine

Hi Christine, Yes it is an old trick told to me by George W.  Bees wax.  Remember surfers use wax for better purchase on the board, same thing.  There are many tricks to what I do, it is best to watch video's, etc. I'm an old drummer lol.  I hope that helps.

That does help a lot, I am watching the videos but you make it look easy! Will continue to practice with the help of bees wax now. Many thanks.
