Minstrel Banjo

For enthusiasts of early banjo

I just bought this little baby. They're out there now for $150. A GREAT sound for banjos. The compression does not squash the loud notes, it's very natural sounding. Spookily real in fact. Records in stereo. A heck of a banjo camcorder. My old Flip Cam was the version that didn't jive with YouTube so well, it had a swirly underwater outerspace thing in the background and a TON of compression that brought things out of the background that weren't even there. I would even say that you could throw the clips from this camera onto an audio CD and it would sound great. As a still shot camera, it's a killer. A 28 - 300 lens!!! Anyway, the mics and inards are so good you can hear the difference between gut and Nylgut, wound or gut 4th, .. and just by some casual positioning you can really get your banjo's true sound. I'm excited to post something soon.

Steve, I just posted a video from this camera of Bouzouki/Banjo, it's still current. To me this camera produces a natural sound and the compression is great, with zero background noise. The two little mikes do record in stereo so it makes the recordings that much more alive. I don't know how a loud rock band would sound through this camera but all my acoustic and miked acoustic recordings sound good.
