Hi all,
I have my pegs and reamer, my Nylguts, a tailpiece and a cedar bridge carved and ready to go, and I'm in the process of cutting a nut down to size. I might just get this thing strung by the end of this weekend!
Here's my question. Well, two questions.
1. Do you glue the nut in place on a banjo? (On my mountain dulcimers the nuts are held in place by string tension and that's my only good previous experience, so sorry if this is an ultra obvious question.)
2. What kind of string height above the finger board (action?) should I be going for? It's fretless. I can't seem to get any answers when I try to search the forum.
Thanks!
Tony

I myself prefer that the nuts on both my mountain dulcimers and banjos are not glued in at all. If glueing, a tiny tiny dot will do. But you want someone to be able to replace or adjust the nut without have to knock it out too hard. I find that string tension holds it just fine. Just my preference.
Thank you! I'd kind of hoped that would be OK here, too!

and as to string height I have it about 3/32" above the fretboard at the nut
my bridge is 11/16" tall and my scale length (nut to bridge) is 26"
Best of luck
Thanks, Ron!
