Minstrel Banjo

For enthusiasts of early banjo

As I sat practicing during today's nor'easter, I was taken with how playing this music is so much klike playing renaissance music, which was quite popular (at least among music students) when I was in college. They were lively, exciting tunes with fascinating rhythmic twists., and words we would not dared to have sung inn public, though perhaps for different reasons.

It made me wonder if 150 years from now, artisans will be building replica solid body guitars, and studying heavy metal.

I enjoy both playing and listening to old-time music, minstrel era music, and 'early music'- which for me means renaissance and medieval.  I often hear connections amongst the three genres, especially in terms of drones, rhythms, and intervals.... stuff that I don't encounter very often in modern music.  I love that stuff...seems to resonate with something deep inside and primal.
