Strokin' a Fretted

Anybody play like that....gut strings, low tuning (E maybe), and doing the Stroke repertoire from Rice forward?

I've certainly messed around with the Stroke stuff on various banjos (including bluegrass cannons). The Stewart Orchestra (read: big pot sizes, 12" and 13") seem to like the low E tunings and do quite well...but y'know, at some point having everything nicely fretted really makes one sound like a Clawhammer player who cannot find his "ditty". ;-)
