Minstrel Banjo

For enthusiasts of early banjo

Folks,

Can anyone tell me who wrote Old King Crow, and what Minstrel group(s) performed it?

I'm trying to pin down the use of the song geographically (in Virginia).

Thanks,

Greg Starbuck

Greg,

The song was written by A. F. Winnemore and published in 1847. It was performed by the Virginia Minstrels. You can find the sheet music on the Library of Congress - Music for the Nation: American Sheet Music site.

Thanks Chris
Since this song is in the Briggs Banjo Instructor, I would consider it fair game for anywhere minstrelsy was popular, in the right time frame.
