Minstrel Banjo

For enthusiasts of early banjo

I thought this was an interesting article from the New York Clipper 1862. It lists a number of familiar names.

Great article.

I'm curious as to the meaning of 'stockinette' and 'trowserloon':  "as for Master Leon, he is always useful in either the stockinette or the trowserloon."

I assume those are two opposing types of roles to play in a show- as in woman/man or black/white or country rube/city dandy  or something like that.  Anyone know for sure about those two terms?

"as for Master Leon, he is always useful in either the stockinette or the trowserloon." Maybe someone can demonstrate at AEBG :-).
