Minstrel Banjo

For enthusiasts of early banjo

I am noticing that everyone seems to play Briggs' 1855 version of Camptown Hornpipe as an AB,AB sequence.  But in the Briggs book, it's written as ABB.  Even Joseph Weidlich's book has it as AAB, with two endings for A part. (?)

Am I missing something here, or are there other period versions that are written as AB/AB or AAB?

When I looked to confirm in the Briggs book, it seems to be indicated as ABB, with the B part only having repeat marks. This would give the A part 8 measures, and the B part 16 measures, twice as long:

I don't take any of those forms as gospel. On this one, to double up the B section all the time takes away from what I think is a good ending.

I see.   I kind of like having to 'wait' for the A part with some anticipation!   Kinda makes the shorter part more.............

............'special'.    ;)
