Thanks for posting that article, Wes.  Several years ago, our vintage base ball club played a match at Detroit's Fort Wayne.  The authorities instructed us to cut the game short by hitting a fly ball to the center fielder, who would then be shot by Confederate marksmen who would then confiscate the ball.  This was to reenact an incident that evidently actually happened in Texas during the Civil War.
