The Sixth Annual Antietam Early Banjo Gathering
The Antietam Early Banjo Gathering (also known as the Early American Banjo Conference) is the premier event for enthusiasts and scholars of the 19th century banjo music and culture. The conference, held at the Pry House Field Hospital Museum on the Antietam National Battlefield, raises awareness of the early banjo’s significance in the development of American popular music. It also underscores music’s importance in the lives of Civil War soldiers.
We are excited to announce the schedule for the Antietam Early Banjo Gathering-VI to be held on June 21-23, 2013. The event will take place at the Pry House Field Hospital Museum, Antietam National Battlefield, 18906 Shepherdstown Pike, Keedysville, Maryland.
The Antietam Early Banjo Gathering is focused on three main activities: formal presentations (screenings, lectures, and workshops); one-on-one mentoring sessions about playing techniques; and two public concerts (for additional information about the schedule, please see this forum post).
Registration for the event is $60 per person and includes morning breakfasts (Saturday and Sunday), Saturday lunch, and daily snacks. Where else would one find a group that gets aroused about banjo thimbles, I ask you? ;D
Ha! Hey bud, "He who smelt it, dealt it" as they say. James' snoring at Harper's Ferry was the only thing in town louder than the train, and shook the walls just as often!
Really want to come down for this, but it's the weekend before the big 150th Gettysburg event/reenactment (well, one of em) that I'm headed to. I believe the wife has to work that weekend as well, meaning I"M the care taker of the little guy. Maybe next year :/
I'm bringing my earplugs! =8-o
solo tenting and ear plugs.
Once again a season is upon me and here I am on the West bank...hope things transpire so that I can make it out there NEXT year, though I am tired of saying that, just need to make it happen. Such a worthwhile event to be part of. Safe Travels everyone, and look forward to the posts afterwards.
I won't be attending, but for any who do arrive on Thursday, I have been to the jam at O'Hurley's General Store. It's a good friendly crowd, very welcoming to passers-by who join in the fun. I most often travel with a dulcimer for hotel playing, it's quieter and takes less space than banjo or guitar, so that's what I used there. There were a variety of banjos, mandos, fiddles guitars and a few mt & hammered dulcimers as well. They move the quilting frames & such out of the way and set up folding chairs for the evening. Good folks and good fun, if you are there Thursday and not too tired from the trip.
Hi all- I'll be arriving on thurs afternoon and staying at the Clarion in Shepardstown- still willing to share the two-bed room with some other female if they want to save some money.
I may go to the O'Hurley jam thurs night if I have nothing better to do. In any case, I'll have my cell phone if anyone wants to get together thursday, etc... ( 518) -763 _ 4986
Any good places to go to in Shepardstown or Keedysville on Friday for breakfast? (possibly espresso, ...or is that like a dirty word around there?)
I hope everyone has a great time! Something came up, and I can not make it. Family matters. I wish I was there! Next year.....
