For enthusiasts of early banjo

From the Converse Analyitcal Method of 1886. Unknown composer, but the arrangement is credited to F.B. Converse.
Anybody know what boxing was like back then? I just remember seeing "Gentleman Jim Corbett" once with his great bare-knuckle match with Sullivan.

Boxing back then was very different than today. I have read that even though the matches were often blood-baths, the incidence of brain trauma was nearly zero...and KO's were fairly rare. That many matches went on for hours (40+ rounds) is an indicator. I've read that the boxing glove is the real culprit in that it allows a boxer to use his full strength to strike. Without gloves, the fine bones of the hand cannot stand solid contact (like head, jaw, etc) w/o breaking.

Of course, sensibilities are different now. One famous match of the 19th cent went on for 50+ rounds and the match was stopped for a time when one of the competitors required a moment to reinsert his own eyeball...before resuming the match.

Cool tune, well played (as usual)!
