Minstrel Banjo

For enthusiasts of early banjo

This is my first time reading sheet music for banjo. And, I've realized I have a heavy thumb. I hope I've interpreted this properly.

Oh duh...I just saw it is Tim's tune of the week.  Sorry!

My goal is to learn the songs, but also how they were mot likely played. So, I welcome advice, criticism, and historical tid bits to help me along. Thank you for the info.

Welcome and great job. You'll be stroking away on that banjo in no time.

Good going Val.. your so getting the hang of it keep going. I too am into the song of the day by Tim, actually working on the first one...have it down to memory..but the phenomena of which I have no name yet always occurs, when I press the record button..my mind goes a drift and I almost always to the last part then mess up. I'm going to give it another attempt tonight and plan on posting it with hopefully limited mistakes.  Keep em coming!

Nicholas, I get nervous when I hit that play button too. I was so sick the past couple of days I think I just forgot to forget...if that makes any sense. I know I have plenty of mistakes, but enjoy having some form of feedback from everyone. Sometimes I feel like I'm in my own little banjo bubble over here. I'll look for your video :)

Yes! I too am in the banjo bubble,..actually a nice world to loose oneself in. I live here in California, Santa Barbara, and feel pretty alone as far as finding any players into this genre of music. The Civil War reenacting community out here has a few players that I have seen at reenactments. So in my group we are slowly putting together a musical vibe, but I think I am the only one living and breathing it outside of those events. If your on the east coast you are closer to more of the action than us out here.  Yes going to get'r done!
