Minstrel Banjo

For enthusiasts of early banjo

This song is one of the earliest Minstrel songs, introduced around 1833, and published as sheet music around 1836. It is highly influenced by European form and melody. George Dixon is credited with it's performance, and parallels the competition between the early blackface performer T.D. Rice and himself.
