Hey Paul, is that an new banjo? So weird, earlier today I was thumbing through Rice's and set my sights on Mrs. McClouds Reel, and then there you are. IT"S A SIGN! Nice stuff buddy.
It just sounded brighter more snappy, maybe the acoustics in the room or mic level. Do you use Gut or nylgut?
Nylgut.
I have never used nylgut on my banjo, for my own reasons, always wanted to stay as close as to raw materials as possible.
I mean there has to be a difference, and I would imagine they are brighter, yes?
Could be, tho I didn't notice a big difference when I changed the gut on my gourd to nylguts. I use nylguts because they last longer and my fingernail slides over them easier. maybe this winter i'll go back to gut.
I noticed a difference with nylguts. I find regular gut to be brighter, especially when you play up on the neck. Some of you may notice I play Jim Along Josie from fret 5 and higher. I do that because I get a nice thump out of the string/banjo, and love the sound. I don't get that when I play on nylguts.
What a lovely cozy place to sit and play...and you sound just great. :)
Interesting John how how each of our our instruments among us seem to respond differently, of course I yet to have experimented with nylgut, I should do that so I can hear for myself.
