Minstrel Banjo

For enthusiasts of early banjo

I'd be hard pressed to tell anyone why this tune is stoke style and not clawhammer. (other than which finger I'm using) I'm pretty sure I'm following the music. Maybe it's just the delivery.

Maybe it's just that the tune is a minstrel tune, and doesn't happen to contain any of the fingering patterns that make the style different from clawhammer style.  If it had been written with a couple more variations then some minstrel fingerings probably would have shown up in it.

Sort of like when a tune is written in a certain mode (dorian for example) but doesn't use all the notes of that scale, thus it can be technically played in two modes (dorian or aeolian)...but that doesn't change the fact that it's really 'in' the one mode?

Maybe it's just the delivery.

You might be onto something there Ian.  Your 'delivery' on this tune is pretty light with your hand staying up in the air and not hitting down with any head percussion or snap beat.  This would give it a more light 'Round Peak' touch and maybe not be something a minstrel show feller would be doing for an audience?   Just a blind guess!
