Ive had a Amish, it was a hot bugger, I know you can say , man up ,,, but I hate a hot head :) what kind of straw would be period 1850 aboutish? Van Goghs straw looks like it would work,, but he aint selling
I actually want something I could wear for "costume" and just outdoors,,,, so I could get a natural worn in look
I like the straw hats the docents at Williamsburg wear. I got one last time I was there.
Hey Steve there a number of Civil War Sutlers on the web. here is one that is reasonably priced.
http://www.fcsutler.com/fchats.asp#Straw Straw hats towards the bottom. Some can be pricy...depending on the Authenticity desired. These are not at a bad price.
I was kickin around getting a straw hat too. Here are a few other guys that sell em to the Civil War crowd. Not sure on availability though.
South Union Mills - they have a bunch of other cool stuff too. Hats are pricey, but I've heard good things.
Ezra Barn House Goods - LOTS of cool stuff! Mrs. Crabb (taking over after the sad loss of her husband) is wonderful. Hats are cheaper too!
Let me know if you get a hat from either of them, I'm curious as to quality. I know both to be reputable in the "authenticity" category.
Matt
