O.K. finally out after 7 years! 30 tunes published in 1839 in banjo tab. Wonderful Foreword by Thistle & Shamrock's Fiona Ritchie! Tab has both minstrel period tuning and modern pitch tunings for clawhammer players. Get yours right here: https://www.earlybanjotraditions.com/books
I also have a few new copies of Brigg's Book that I found recently. Once they are gone that's it!
Mark, I'm definitely interested. Is it music notation or TAB?
Both. But the notation simply follows the tab, so if you were playing fiddle you could follow the melody well enough, just don't play the thumb string notes!
The Knauff Collection is confusing to me. I've copied several in small series' but was never sure if I had the whole thing. Can you tell me how many tunes are in the complete series? Are they all included in your publication or some of your favs?
35. I've tabbed out 27 of them. And also added three other virginia reels from a competitor! So I have 30 in the book.
Thanks, Mark. I'll compare that to what I have.
The manuscripts were written for piano, and some of them simply do not translate well to the banjo. The use of the bass is pretty extraordinary. I am definitely interested in seeing what you have done with them!
Just ordered mine. Thanks Mark!
Thanks Paul. Love to hear you play some of this stuff! I plan on putting up videos for all the songs as soon as I get back from the Swannanaoa Gathering. Coming to Sweeney Convergence?
Yes, planning on it
Been enjoying playing some of these the last few days. Was pleasantly surprised when I saw it for sale :)
