Minstrel Banjo

For enthusiasts of early banjo

From Slave Songs of the United State - 1867. Found it after learning a tune of the same name out of the 1868 Buckley book. Little bits of it are the same. There's a video of Tim Twiss playing a setting out of the Stewart Book.

Ian, can you give us any more of the lyric verses?  Seems like a fun song!   I have a frog limberjack that would dance pretty well to this, too.  :)

I think it was a pretty funny song. Judging from the recycled lines in verse 2 he might be dancing with one of the "Buffalo Gals". This book is available as a PDF online somewhere - I can't actually remember. Try googling the title.

It appears the lyrics are complete in the .jpg you posted.  Seems like three verses and a chorus, though the first two verses have very slight timing variations, apparently tailored to the words.   Easy enough to follow.   :)
