This is a great rendition of Little Birdie, and his playing style here is along the lines of the Kentuckian Roscoe Holcomb who also did this song, altho a little faster.

(thanks for that link, Carl)

You're welcome Paul, and thanks for the stylistic observation; the clawhammer tradition is rich and my ear can't always descry the subtleties.

Clifton also plays the 2-finger, pre-Earl fingerstyle that has been getting some attention lately.

Very nice stuff!  Clifton has a new subscriber to his channel.

Interesting the emphasis on a broad offbeat (2,4) strum for that Birdie.  Most oldtime clawhammer I hear has the emphasis on the 1,3 beats.  interestingly, bluegrass (which this is not) also usually has the emphasis on the offbeats.

Thanks for clearing all this up Carl...for me I was duped, I thought these guys were authentic Civil War soldiers. One reason I love this site you are always introduced to something new.

I know Clif through reenacting!  Last time I saw him was out in Perryville, KY.  Great guy!  I think his lack of facial hair is what threw me haha
