 Love the foothills............  Texas has some real pretty country, its just a few hrs from where I live,{ in the stinkin coastal plains}, flat as a fritter

Hey Steve, It is an area called Lebec, Ca North of L.A. about 100 miles or so. Here is a link to the park.

It's sad, as most of America knows California is in Deep Poop with their money. Unfortunately many State Parks are going to be closed, this being one of them. I just Joined the Ft. Tejon Historical Association, they are trying to work an agreement with the state to be guardians of the park and keep it open. It would be one thing if it was just a park and no historical buildings, but the fear of vandals and the need to keep this open for the public might get this one some support. We hope. I love Texas, it reminds me a little of outside of Austin.

Yes, without being political,,, I do think our government forgets about some things that are important. Our natural & historic areas are some of them. 

Austin, yes its pretty in the hill country, and west too.

 I hope it works out for yall and the park.

Yeah it's amazing the History there. The namesake of the area Peter Lebec, he was mauled by a Grizzly bear, and managed to scratch in his own epitaph in an Oak Tree before he expired. They found the inscription when a huge part of the tree bark loosened and fell. From where the Bark had grown there was  an imprint from his inscription. They have it in the tiny museum. In the book "Gods and Generals", Armistead and Hancock were stationed in the Los Angles area and there were still problems with the Californios  after the united states occupation. A garrison was sent from Ft Tejon to support the Los Angeles post. Then we of course know the history of those two gentleman. Well we as the people have to stand up for these places.
